Fall Intern Spotlight: Brittany Melvin

What is a typical day like in the life of an RLF intern? Well, as many PR professionals know, there is no such thing as a typical day in our industry. This is true for RLF interns, too, as they work on a variety of projects for different clients. One day they can be building a targeted media list for financial trade publications, and the next day they can be participating in a brainstorming session for a new project.
RLF has four interns this fall, including two who participated in our most recent summer internship program. Today, our final intern spotlight is on Brittany.

Brittany Melvin
I am from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and am a senior at High Point University majoring in strategic communications and Spanish.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to work in public relations in some capacity related to entertainment or sports. If I could incorporate my knowledge of Spanish into my job, that would be a bonus!
What is your favorite book?
My favorite book is The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. In fact, I enjoy reading all of Nicholas Sparks’ books as they’re great to read by the beach or pool in the summer!
How did you spend your summer?
This summer, I interned at a full-service public relations, marketing and events agency in New York City.  I worked in public relations in the lifestyle department and was responsible for work for multiple clients. It was an amazing opportunity that allowed me to gain experience in a wide gamut of areas related to public relations and event planning.
What is a fun fact about you?
I enjoy playing sports and I played on a competitive traveling basketball team until the end of high school.
What is your favorite part of being an intern at RLF so far?
My favorite part of being an intern at RLF so far has been gaining experience in the agency side of public relations and learning about a variety of industries. I enjoy the environment of the agency, as well, including everyone’s focus, commitment and enthusiasm.
