Spring Intern Spotlight: Kaitlin Hughes

At RLF, we are proud to offer a fulfilling and versatile internship program during the spring, summer and fall. RLF’s hands-on internship program provides students with comprehensive experience in the fields of public relations, advertising and marketing as they join numerous account teams.
It’s important for communications interns to learn a variety of skills, from media relations and social media management to design and advertising, to give them exposure to agency life and prepare them for an entry-level position in the industry.
Introducing you to our interns for the spring semester, the spotlight today is on Kaitlin.

Kaitlin Hughes
I am currently in my last semester at UNC-Greensboro. I am majoring in communication studies, but I already have a minor in business administration from East Carolina University. I am blessed to be from the beautiful waterfront of New Bern, N.C. (yes, that’s where Nicholas Sparks lives).
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be working as a social media manager or in public relations of some sort for one of the major environmental/conservation nonprofits like The Sierra Club or World Wildlife Fund.
What is your favorite book?
I honestly don’t have a favorite book because I like all genres, but if I had to pick one of my top five I would say The Great Gatsby. I just recently read it again and cannot wait for the movie this summer.
If you could go out to lunch every day, where would it be?
I am obsessed with Thai food so anything of that variety. I could eat shrimp pad Thai every day of my life.
What is a fun fact about you?
I am a waffle enthusiast. I love to cook waffles and try new recipes or combinations. I once planned a waffle brunch where we had 15 different flavors. If you haven’t tried a bacon waffle, you are simply not living!
What is your favorite part of being an intern at RLF so far?
I really enjoy the hands on learning I get to do each day I intern. Since I am new to the PR industry, it is always exciting to try new things or expand my knowledge of the field. The people here are great too; everyone is so friendly and helpful. Also, those cookies that are sometimes in the coffee room are delicious.
