THE SITUATION

The primary focus of the Crystal Coast Tourism Development Authority (CCTDA) is to attract visitors, but CCTDA saw a growing need for education and outreach to emphasize the vital economic role of the tourism industry in the community.

RLF’S APPROACH

RLF sought to institute a campaign for CCTDA that would foster a deeper understanding of tourism’s importance and ensure long-term sustainability. RLF aimed to build stronger relationships with elected officials, business leaders and other stakeholders in Carteret County.

RLF launched the “Sand Dollars: Thriving on Tourism” campaign, which included social media spotlights on local businesses, press releases exploring tourism’s impact, a direct mail campaign, e-newsletters and the creation of informational materials.

RESULTS

The campaign successfully improved public sentiment toward tourism and raised awareness of its importance among local businesses and community stakeholders. It gained notable media coverage in CCTDA’s local market, while also generating significant social media engagement. The increased visibility fostered a strong sense of community support for future tourism initiatives.
